Cherry Streusel Crumb Pie

A wonderful delicious pie with a beautiful braided rim surrounding sweet cherries topped with a streusel crumb finish.

Recipe: Prep: 1 1/2 hours Serves 6

6 cups organic sweet cherries -fresh or frozen/thawed

dash organic almond extract

1 tsp. allspice

2 tbsp. organic whole wheat flour

pie crust:

2 cups organic whole wheat flour (chemical free)

1/3 cup organic extra virgin coconut oil - melted

1/2 tsp. Himalayan salt

2 tbsp. organic raw apple cider vinegar

3/4 cup ice water

Streusel topping:

1 cup organic coconut sugar

1/2 cup flour

3 tbsp. organic butter - softened

Egg wash: 1 organic or pastured egg and 1 tbsp. organic cream

1 glass 9 inch pie pan

In a medium bowl, add cherries, allspice, coconut sugar, and

flour and mix together and let sit.

For streusel, add coconut sugar, butter, and flour into food

processor and blend well. Pour into a bowl.

In food processor, add the pie crust ingredients of flour and salt.

Pulse and then add coconut oil. Blend well. Add vinegar and ice

water and blend well.

Take out and put onto floured surface and knead lightly into a smooth mound. Divide mound into a larger portion and a smaller portion.

The large for the pie crust and the smaller for the braided rim.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Roll out large portion into a circular pattern for pie pan. Place in pie pan and cut off excess dough right at the outside edge of rim.

Then roll out the smaller portion and cut into 2 sets of three thin strips about 3/16th widths - to make into two braided strips.

Pinch together the beginning ends of each set of three strips and then carefully braid the strips and then pinch together the the final ends.

Mix the egg wash well and apply with a pastry brush, along the rim pie dough in pan. Then carefully place braids onto rim and overlap slightly the

ends of each. If you have too much excess then cut some off with scissors.

Pinch the ends that meet together, blending the pattern as best you can.

Then brush egg wash all around the top of braid pattern.

Pour cherry mixture into prepared pie dough pan. Carefully, sprinkle

streusel over the top. Bake for about 45 minutes. Let cool. Enjoy!
